International Course (I-Course)

We offer a new teaching module, the “I-Course”, which is a voluntary course offered to any LMU medical student.

It  teaches international clinical skills as a preparation for working in an English-speaking environment.

The I-Course tutorial Part 1 is called “Basic Tools“ because it focuses on teaching the students how to take a structured organ-related history and perform a standardized physical examination in English. In groups of six the participating students will learn frequently used abbreviations and medical English terminology with English-speaking standardized patients. The course is comprised of 5 sessions throughout the entire semester.

The I-Course Part 2 is called ‚Applied Clinical Skills‛ because it prepares students for daily clinical work on the wards in an English-speaking health care environment. During the sessions each student will take a history with an English-speaking standardized patient and prepare a clinical case presentation. The students will learn how to present their cases to their fellow students and summarize their clinical findings in a standardized, structured admission and progress note.

It is our intention to prepare students to accomplish every task that they might encounter during a clinical rotation.

These structured approaches will help them to discuss and present patients to senior medical faculty in English-speaking hospitals.
